Before you Tweet, Learn Twitter Language

As Twitter only has 140 characters for you to post in, you have to use the space in the most powerful and productive way. Twitter used specific language symbols and words in order to increase the efficiency of the communication flow on Twitter. Before launching any 140 Character marketing strategy you should learn and become familiar with the easy list below

Retweet - This is a term for a Tweet someone else sent and is now being reposted by another person. Retweets are great if you see some positive information about your company or industry.

DM - is a Direct Message sent to a Twitter which is sent to their inbox for private viewing. Sending a DM is quite easy; simply type d followed by a Twitterer's user name sends a direct message to that person. E.g. "d @mydotcom  What are you doing?"

Hashtag - the "#" symbol is used to point out a keyword in a tweet, which makes it easier to find when searching on Twitter. E.g. Search for the term: #balloonboy

@username - the “@” symbol followed by the username of a twitter is a great way to directly address someone in Twitter openly.
This is great if they have commented on you or your company in a positive or negative way and you simply want to respond to them for all to see.

OH – Overheard, simply means that someone is posting something that they overheard.

Twitter.com has its own Help section with content and videos explaining all of the above in more simplistic detail.
