Before you engage on Twitter.
Before you or your company even begin to think about using the Twitter strategies in our Strategy Section, you need to lay down the foundations of the strategy.
Firstly as mentioned in the previous section, you must learn the lingo of Twitter in order to execute more effectively.
Secondly you need to set up your Twitter account, which is quite easy to do, but most importantly you need to think long and hard about your username, what is it going to be? This will be your identify on Twitter and shouldn’t be changed. Read our blog post about choosing a Twitter Username.
The third thing you have to do is Listen to what is being said out there, get a feel through seeing other Twitterers Tweets what is right or wrong in your eyes.
Set clear goals for what you or your company want to achieve from engaging in Twitter. Setting goals is the only way you can measure the effectiveness of the engagement and ultimately the success of it too.
Next you need to decide who is going to Tweet. If you are a individual, we guess the choice is easy. If you are part of a company, you need to ask yourself who will be responsible for Tweeting? The marketing department?, the secretary?, the CEO?. A combination of all three?
The answer to the above question is important as your Twitter account should have a personality in the form of a familiar face or group of faces that your followers can identify with. Creating a background, as detailed in our next section with your Twitter Team is a great way to make the strategy look and feel more personal.
Once you have laid down the foundations as above, you are ready to begin and move forward in planning and executing your strategy. Click Here to read about our suggested Twitter Strategies.
